Life-Size Tiger Art Installation Celebrates Lunar New Year
Happy Lunar New Year! Today, approximately 1.5 billion people will celebrate the start of the Year of the Tiger. One of twelve animals: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig, characterize each lunar year. To commemorate the Year of the Tiger, the San Francisco Chinese Chamber of Commerce has organized a public art installation, bringing six life-size tiger statues to different locations in the city. Called “Tiger on Parade,” the art installation will last until February 19.

Local artists design each tiger with a theme in mind. The six tigers are named: voyager, horizon, posterity, good fortune, harvester, wealth & health. The companies sponsoring the design of each tiger include Alaska Airlines, AARP, Whole Foods, The Golden State, Warriors, Lucky California, and ICBC.

On February 21, 2022, the tigers will sell via an auction. Net proceeds will benefit the Chinese Community Health Resource Center, the Southeast Asian Development Center, the Chinese Culture Center, Community Youth Center, and Self-Help for the Elderly. The auction will close on February 27 at 9 PM.

Ron loves to travel and has visited more than 25 countries, which he credits for giving him a greater understanding of peoples and cultures. Ron also has a U.S. Coast Guard captain’s license and enjoys boating on the San Francisco Bay.
